I have acquired 2 se7320sp2 motherboards and processors. I would have to get ram for them. Would they be suitable for a nas box? I don't have a penny in them and wondering if I should put money in them or turn to something else. I have a box running now which is just a converted home pc. Worth the effort to use one of these intel boards or not? Thanks in advance

Not useful. Tigerton is a 2005-era chipset and is nearing 20 years old. You'll be lucky to get 8GB of DDR RAM on the board, which is too little for TrueNAS, especially if you want to run something like Plex. The board is almost fatally limited as it nearly predates PCI-Express, having only a single x4 slot, which isn't friendly to server cards such as HBA's or ethernet cards. This also raises questions of what you could use for a boot device with it. This could be a neat board if you're masochistic and willing to experiment with PCI-X ethernet cards or HBA's and only want a NAS with a drive or two, but for every practical sense, it is worthless. It would also be very expensive to operate as these systems are very energy inefficient. The only upside is that you'd have a spare for when the first one fails. Sorry if this is a disappointment.

Thanks, that is the info I needed.

You could, however, spin up a small Gentoo build and LVM. It's not TrueNAS, but would work for what you want to accomplish.

Did you read the big TrueNAS manual hardware section, or the hardware guide? They're great resources and can save a lot of time if the end result is more important than the journey.
