Intel Desktop CT or DELL Broadcom 5722 ?

If you were to buy new, what would you buy for a modest FreeNAS build?

• Intel Desktop CT adapter
• Dell Broadcom 5722

The intended use is for iSCSI traffic, along an on-board Intel i217, to an ESXi host with two adapters using multipath I/O.

Intel. If you really want performance, consider a Intel Server Adapter I210-T1 as a minimum.

Would an ET Dual Port Server Adapter be much better?
It's available where I live but it's not that attractive to me because: first it's more than five times more expensive than a Desktop CT and second, drivers have stopped at Windows Server 2012 / Win8 level. No R2/8.1 or newer, and I'd hate to sink money into outdated hardware. (The CT is in the same boat driver-wise but at least it's decently priced)

Is the desktop adapter not able to fill the gigabit link with iSCSI traffic?

How would you rate the on-board I217?

It's relatively inexpensive for a I210-T1 NIC. I'm using one in my Windows desktop PC because the onboard NIC died but I didn't try it in my NAS so far.

-V or -LM? One of them is not officially supported under FreeBSD and has been known to occasionally cause issues (though I think the driver was updated to fix this).

It doesn't say. The machine in question is a Dell PowerEdge T20 with a single gigabit NIC.
