SOLVED Incorrect password for RancherOS

Disclaimer: Huge UNIX noob. Trying to learn, but I know I am jumping into, if not the deep end, definitely not the kiddie pool...

I am trying to set up RancherOS. I am like any good noob RingTFM, but I have run into a snag here. Specifically, trying to login.

I am using rancher as the username, and I've tried a few passwords, but none are working. I tried the password I used when creating the RAW device (as the manual says), I've tried rancher, I've tried leaving it blank. I've tried changing the RAW device password to something simple (qwerty1234) to see if it was a character restriction, no dice. I stopped the VM, changed it, then restarted in case I can't change it in use. I removed the RAW device entirely and remade it, same problem.

Any ideas, steps I should try or further information you might need?

I can't say I understand what was different, but deleting the VM and RAW device again and then doing it all over worked like a dream.
