How to Reset Root Password on FreeNas 8 ?

and i forget my root password

how i can reset my root password ?

Unless something has change VERY recently, there has never been a username and password to access the console. Maybe its possible you're not using FreeNAS 8, but FreeNAS .7x / nas4free?

Can you post a screenshot?

Try the nas4free.org forums, they are the correct place to ask for your version.

Uh.. you are logged in as root. Why do you want to reset the password if you already have the root access? Why do you even need help if you can already log in as root?

There is something horribly wrong here. That console is wrong, you're logged in as root.. this is just getting more puzzling.

Did you try to connect a display to your FreeNas box?
Maybe yo can see something like that...

He was asking for a picture of your screen on the machine in question. You either aren't using FreeNAS 8 on your server or you need to reinstall FreeNAS because your installation is horribly messed up. We're trying to figure out which one it is but you sending stuff from a totally different setup is only adding to the confusion.

this display when i checked Enable Console Menu in FreeNas Setting

but when unchecked this option will not display this screen

Ok. I'll put the pieces on the table and let you do what you want...I'm not getting through to you.

If you were using FreeNAS it should look like this. If you had that menu locally on the machine you'd choose option 7 to reset your admin GUI password. From there you log into the GUI and reset your root password. But it doesn't look like that. So there's only 2 possibilities:

1. You aren't using FreeNAS 8. (Hint: I'm thinking you aren't using FreeNAS 8 and sending me a virtual machine from an ISO doesn't tell me that you didn't make a mistake and installed something else)
2. You are using FreeNAS 8 and somehow your system is horribly messed up and corrupted beyond all recognition.

So take your pick of which one you want to go with. Sending me screenshots of a virtual machine doesn't help because you may not actually be using FreeNAS.
