The specs I found say it has a maximum supported memory of 1GB. That is one-eighth of the minimum needed amount.

Well maybe iXsystems should come out with a Micro-FreeNAS edition :p

Actually, that's not a bad idea, just a FreeNAS with minimal basic NAS functions. Of course someone would want to ruin it and ask why they can run a VM or Jails.

...or ask if it would run on 50% hardware specs :P

I have 1GB memory RAM on board.
LOL, FreeNAS requires 8GB RAM. I think even NAS4Free requires at least 4GB. It's inconceivable.

You could actually try FreeNAS 8.03 which will run on 1GB RAM but that is with ext4 formatted drives I believe. This would give you basic NAS functions. It might even support ZFS but you would really need to test it (I've seen it done a few times before).

Yes. And FreeNAS requires 8 GB minimum. Running FreeNAS on this machine would be absolutely, totally, and in all other ways inconceivable.

FreeNAS without ZFS is a car without wheels.

Don't bother with FreeNAS. Just install <favorite insert Linux distro here> FreeBSD and be done with it.
