Hello world! I have a thin client chipset Via 1Ghz but only 256Mb RAM and a 6Gb CF.
It's possible to install freenas on it? Or maybe what's the last stable version that can i use for it?

thanks in advance.

Not a chance. No build of FreeNAS has ever been able to run with that little RAM. Just the ramdrives alone are about 1GB.

I remember running FreeNAS 0.7 (which ultimately became NAS4Free) from a 256MB USB drive, but I'm pretty sure the laptop I was using at the time had more RAM than that. It might be worth checking with those folks just to be sure--nas4free.org.

NAS4free requires 512MB RAM. With 256MB RAM you should be looking at plain FreeBSD, OpenBSD, etc.

No machine with 256MB of RAM is remotely useful as a server these days. It's probably also not very useful as anything else.

A few years ago I set up an openbsd samba server on an old machine with 256MB of RAM, and it worked fine for 4-5 users with light load until I could get together some proper hardware. It was for a small organization with zero budget in a developing country. There are legitimate use cases for old hardware.

My home DNS/DHCP/NTP server runs with 128MB of RAM.
Same with many of my Debian servers (at home).

And you think is possible for a NAS?

It is not possible to run FreeNAS on the hardware. It is possible to run samba. Performance may not be as good as you want, and configuration will mostly involve editing text files as you won't have or want a GUI. If you are not already familiar with BSD and samba it will involve lots of reading and learning.
