Well it looks ok..

drwxrwxr-x+ 2 Richard Richard 33 Mar 4 17:57 Saga (2012)
drwxrwxr-x+ 2 Richard Richard 25 Mar 3 10:28 Sex (2013)

drwxrwxr-x+ 2 Richard Richard 12 Mar 3 10:21 Southern Bastards (2014)
drwxrwxr-x+ 2 Richard Richard 46 Mar 5 00:09 Stray Bullets (1995)

But mylar is throwing this permissions related error..

2015-03-05 01:00:17ERRORUncaught exception: Traceback (most recent call last):

do you know what folder "/Comics/Supreme Blue Rose (2014)" it is referencing?
maybe you need to tell mylar the correct Comics folder to use?

Mylar has access to the folder. It created it in the correct place and threw that error at the same time

OK, that's an application issue then. not a real permission issue.

Urghhh, that's doubly depressing then, as the attempts to fix it, have now resulted in my Windows user 'Richard' losing it's connection with my Freenas user 'Richard'

I now have account unknown where it used to be user Richard in my windows security settings (see attached screen grab)

EDIT:

Sorry, scratch that. There was some weirdness going on between Windows and my Freenas box I think. I changed everything back to how it was and my Windows share started working again. I then made all the changes again, one by one, waiting for the share to get messed up, but it never happened!

Suffice to say, apart from Mylar still not working, everything else is running like clockwork

Thanks again for the help. I've taken this back to Mylar's developer to see if he can shed any light on the matter

Hi Josh,

I'm still having problems getting my setup working, so I'm going to try and be as clear as possible here to finally get this nut cracked

My setup:

1
. I have added a user Richard with a UID of 816 he belongs to a group called admin with a GID of 1001 (The only other user I have added is BTSync UID 817) (The only other group I have added is BTSync GID 817)

2. The user Richard is also a microsoft login account, allowing me to access my CIFS share with full permissions

3.
I have a dataset with recursive windows permissions 775. The owner and group of that dataset are Richard:admin

4.
I have a number of CIFS shares, linked to my dataset

5. I have 6 Plugins, all in separate jails, located on another dataset; BTSync, Couch Potato, Sickrage, Plex, Mylar, Headphones

My problems:

1. Mylar
is unable to modify or delete files in my dataset

2. when accessing my CIFS shares my windows user Richard now shows up as 'account unknown' followed by a long string of numbers, meaning I cannot modify any files files in the CIFS share, when logged in to my Windows client (This was working fine yesterday, before I started playing around with users and permissions)

Information from the shell command:

1. ps aux
(on the Mylar jail)
root@mylar_2:/ # ps aux
USER PID %CPU %MEM VSZ RSS TT STAT STARTED TIME COMMAND
root 10573 0.0 0.0 12092 1872 ?? SsJ 11:34AM 0:00.01 /usr/sbin/syslogd -s

root 28758 0.0 0.0 16300 2140 0 R+J 12:42PM 0:00.00 ps aux

2. ls -l /path/to/mediafiles (on one of the media folders)
[root@freenas ~]# ls -l /mnt/TV/Media_3/Downloads/Torrent_watch_folder/Complete/Comics

3. ls -l / | grep media (on one of the media folders)

[root@freenas /mnt/TV/Media_3/Downloads/Torrent_watch_folder/Complete/Comics]# l
s -l / | grep media
drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 2 Jan 31 03:24 media

4. ls -l / | grep media (on the Mylar jail)

root@mylar_2:/ # ls -l / | grep media
drwxrwxr-x+ 61 media SSHuser 62 Mar 5 01:12 Comics
drwxrwxr-x+ 3 media SSHuser 14 Mar 5 12:01 Downloads
drwxrwxr-x+ 2 media SSHuser 2 Mar 5 12:01 Torrents
drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 2 Jul 11 2014 media

So looking at the two ls -l results, I can see it looks like there is a user/permissions issue going on. I just don't know how best to fix it

If any of this isn't clear, I can provide screen grabs to show settings shell commands etc.

Is there any other information I can give you that might help to finally nail this?

I can help with problem number 1. The CIFS stuff (problem 2) is over my head.

The cause of problem 1 is that Mylar is running as user 'media' (UID 816), while your files are owned by Richard:admin, and are 775 permissions, so only Richard and admin group members can edit them.
Pick one of the solutions; you didn't implement any of them in this case.

Right, I misunderstood. I thought that only the UIDs needed to match, so I set Richard as UID 816 (clearly a mistake)

So hypothetically, If I change Richard's UID to 1234 and then add user Richard to the Mylar jail with the same 1234 UID, as well as setting the owner of the dataset to Richard that should work?

I can leave the group alone in that case? (currently admin GID 1001)

Ahh, I didn't notice the UIDs matched. In that case Mylar shouldn't have any issues accessing files Richard can access. I think what you are trying to do should be working.

What specific files/folders can't be accessed from Mylar? Please show 'ls -l /path/to/folder', stop doing that 'grep media' I need to see everything.

ls -l can only read up to the surface folders as the all have years in parenthesis in the folder titles (This is the way Mylar spits them out)

It's files within these folders that Mylar is struggling with, but I don't know how to show you those

Sorry Josh, I don't fully understand the question. Do you mean the destination?

/Comics
/Torrents
/Downloads

EDIT:

Sorry, you meant this I think:

/mnt/Movies_and_Music/pluginjails/mylar_2/Downloads
/mnt/Movies_and_Music/pluginjails/mylar_2/Torrents
/mnt/Movies_and_Music/pluginjails/mylar_2/Comics

Before you ask, I changed the group on my dataset to 'wheel', as my CIFS share wasn't working at all with the 'admin' group I added

The owner of the dataset is actually 'Richard'. Is it saying 'media' because they share the same UID of 816?

ps. So you use speech marks in shell to deal with things like brackets and spaces etc. That's been confusing me for ages ;)

OK, those files look editable from the media user in the jail, and therefore Mylar. Unix permissions aren't your issue. not sure what is =\

the OP, facts section explains that the jail and host map users to UIDs independently.

yup either quotes or you could put a \ in front of any special characters like a space

On a slightly different note, I am midway through installing Mylar again, just to work from a clean base and see if I still have the same problems

I was just trying to change over to the development build, following some instructions you gave me a couple of weeks ago and I'm having some problems with installing git

The following 14 packages will be affected (of 0 checked):

New packages to be INSTALLED:
git: 2.1.0
p5-Authen-SASL: 2.16
p5-GSSAPI: 0.28
p5-Digest-HMAC: 1.03
p5-Net-SMTP-SSL: 1.01_2
p5-IO-Socket-SSL: 1.997_2
p5-Mozilla-CA: 20130114
p5-Net-SSLeay: 1.65
p5-Socket: 2.015
p5-IO-Socket-IP: 0.31
p5-Error: 0.17022
curl: 7.37.1_2
cvsps: 2.1_1
p5-MIME-Base64: 3.14

The process will require 22 MB more space.
5 MB to be downloaded.

Proceed with this action? [y/N]: y
pkg: http://pkg.FreeBSD.org/freebsd:9:x86:64/latest/All/git-2.1.0.txz: Not Found

Is this an issue with the hosting do you think?

Where do I run that line from? I get an error if I run it from the jail
I think the jail, that basically deletes an old repo config. guess that's not your issue, and maybe their pkg server is down?
