Hi
I'm a new user of freenas OS
I have create one user on my pc (Buser) an it have the read permission (only this permission) on my two local drive ( C and D)
I would like to know how configure this account on Freenas to periodically connect to my pc and backup it.

Why this? Because if a ransomware attack my pc it can use my account to corrupt the data on Freenas but it is impossible if my computer don’t have the credential to connect to freenas disks

Could you know how I can do this?

Thanks
Davide

From FreeNAS, no idea. To FreeNAS, easy.

Create a dataset backup and an SMB share for it.
Create a user on FreeNAS with full control for that share.
Create a snapshot task to be safe from ransomware.
Install Veeam Agent for Windows Free on the Windows machine.
Point Veeam at the FreeNAS share, with the user you created. Choose how long to keep incrementals for. 14 days? 60? Choose whether to encrypt the backup. Set a backup schedule.

And you’re off to the races.

Done but... Have you any solution to automatic turn on freenas before the backup and turn off at the end?

Not really, no. My FreeNAS runs 24/7. What are you concerned about? Noise, or power draw?

Edit: You can do this, if you positively have to turn off FreeNAS - tell Veeam to take a backup "when the target is available". You'd turn on FreeNAS, leave it running long enough for backup to complete, turn it off again. Why, tho. Let's get to the why.

if you want to disable it, you can configure the task in the cron: shutdown-p now menu. A turn on is performed using the motherboard with the Wake up or alarm option enabled

Yes it is a noise and "energy safe" problem Your idea is good I check the case when the target is available
