I am using FreeNAS mini box still running 9.11 and all of a sudden, it will not send any signal to my computer monitor during boot up nor will it display GUI when I attempt to access via browser using the static IP I have been using.

I checked the lights and all four hard drive have blue lights, but only strange thing I see is the NIC showing yellow blinking light on back of the FreeNAS mini. However, I was still at least expecting to see it boot up on the monitor connected via VGA cable but it is not sending any signal to the monitor for me to see the boot up state or activities.

I checked all cables and can confirm that they are good because both the VGA cable and Ethernet cable works when connected to my laptop, so that doesn't seem to be the issue.

Everything was working prior but now I can't access any of my files on it.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi, if this is a FreeNAS mini based on the Asrock C2750 D4I m0therboard, I expect that the motherbpoard has died as a result of the Intel Avoton fault. There is information in threads here:
https://forums.freenas.org/index.ph...2550d4i-or-c2750d4i-lasted.45445/#post-307647
and here:

If you have the iXsystems Mini, get in touch with them for a replacement motherboard under warranty. If you have another machine but based on the C2750D4I, get hold of Asrock technical support for a warranty replacement.

Good luck. As far as I recall there have been no negative reports here on obtaining replacements.

Thanks...This is a FreeNAS mini bought directly from iXSystem the FreeNAS developers. So if this is indeed a motherboard issue:

  • does it mean my data on HDD are still safe? I am praying they are...
  • how easy is it to self-install the replacement motherboard
Thanks for your assistance.

Yes, data should be fine - this is one great advantage of ZFS and FreeNAS.

It is an easy install - see the resource here https://forums.freenas.org/index.ph...and-mini-xl-motherboard-replacement-guide.53/

iXsystems did offer for me to send the machine back to them and they would install, but I declined and opted for an advanced RMA. I have no reason to believe that you won't have an easy ride with this process.

Good luck, do come back and tell us how it goes.

As @Redcoat says, the data should be fine. However, any critical data should be backed up--if yours isn't, give some thought to your backup solution.
