VGA resolution too high

After installing FreeNAS 11.2U2.1 on a Supermicro X11SPH-nCTF board, the machines boots to a VGA resolution of 1600x1200, which is higher than the 1280x1024 supported by the monitor. I'm able to access the VGA console using IPMI remote console. The failure to detect the monitor resolution, might be because the server is connected to a plain KVM, which connects to a network kvm and then to the monitor.

How can I force it to boot at 1280x1024 VGA resolution?

No I didn't, I'm not familiar with FreeBSD. I'm still resorting to IPMI to access the console.
