Hello!
I've tried to pinpoint this problem by reading the forums and googling. But I think I've found the problem but not how to solve it.

The problem: Every 30min for 10sec the HDDs get busy, really busy! 50-80% and it doesn't sound healthy at all.

The HW:
Microserver gen8
16GB ECC RAM
4x3TB WD RED
Xeon 1230v2

What I've tried:
Revert to 11.1-U4 from current 11.1-U6 but the problem is persistent, so this has been going on for a while!
Turning off all services via UI.
Turning off all scheduled tasks.
Clearing up space since it was close to 80%.

What I found: a Command called 'sendmail' in State 'zio-&gt:' that starts and stops with the overload. Check screenshot.

I am baffled!

I'm not sure what it might be. I wonder if the queue timeout for sendmail is set to 30 min.

What is your root user email set to? Can you successfully send mail from freenas to that address and have it received?

Also, are you spinning down your drives? If so, what is the timeout you set?

The mail is working properly. No idea how to set the queue timer thou.

The drives are on 24/7.

Tomorrow I'll will try a clean installation just to check it's not some HW issue. It could be the HP meltdown patch
