Hi folks,

I did receive this morning a strange e-mail saying the following:

Code:

I don't know exactly what it means, I'm not an expert on this topic but I have tried to get some information from the smart tests, so far nothing found so probably not looking in the right direction. I did check the 3 different hard drives I do have:

Selective self-test flags (0x0):
After scanning selected spans, do NOT read-scan remainder of disk.
If Selective self-test is pending on power-up, resume after 0 minute delay.

I don't understand every bit of information but it seems they are looking ok?

Thanks for your help,

The reported error is a checksum error on your boot drive, not a data drive. A USB going bad, I'm guessing? If you have a mirror, pull the bad one and reboot. [Edit - I guess it isn't mirrored as only one is showing in the report].
I suggest you make a new boot drive, fire it up and reload your saved configuration file (I assume you have one).
Better yet, if it's a USB, I'd swap it out for a small SSD as USB sticks are typically of low reliability.

Oh! Less important than what I was expecting then. Is the last FreeNAS update compatible with the configuration backup of the previous release? I think I should be running in the 10 version (11 has rolled out right).

I need to important the zpool into the new configuration right? Does it takes time or is it instantly done?

Thanks for your help!

No, nobody should be running 10. You don't say what version you are using, but updates are available for supported versions, generally 9.10.

Sorry I meant 9.10 by saying 10.

[Edit]Is the configuration backup from 9.10 compatible with version 11?

To be safe you can make your new boot drive from the ISO of the version you are running now (yes 11 has rolled out). Get it at http://download.freenas.org/

Yes, import the pool if it does not import automatically (it has always done so for me as far as I can recall).

If I recall, the last time I had to restore from a config file, I just did the installation of FreeNAS; once I got to the GUI, I exited the initial configuration wizard and installed the config file. That forced a reboot and the system came back to where it was before. I don't remember needing to import the pool, I think that was handled for me when I loaded the config file, but it has been a while.

If nothing has changed, then you will not have to import the pool after restoring the configuration.
