Not sure where the best place to post this is as this is my first post. I cannot get the smart service to start. I have tried enabling it from the gui and shell with no joy. I fould that smart does not seem to be enabled for drive da0. I tried starting it vi shell with this command smartctl --smart=on /dev/da0 the error I recieve is
=== START OF ENABLE/DISABLE COMMANDS SECTION ===
unable to fetch IEC (SMART) mode page [scsi response fails sanity test]
A mandatory SMART command failed: exiting. To continue, add one or more '-T perm
issive' options.

there are 7 drives of the same type and manufacturer HGST all drives da0-da6 fail to start smart. when I try to change any of those disks via gui I get an error that says the serial is to long 32 characters and should not exceed 30. I am using a lsi raid card with drives set to raid 0 because it doesnt support JBOD. It seems like that could be interferring with smart but idk about the serial thing. Any help is appreciated and I will get specifics as to raid card model and drive type when I am able to pull the freenas box from operation.

This is a problem. It may or may not be what's causing the problem you're currently seeing, but it's definitely a problem.

What's the output of smartctl -a /dev/da0?

does anyone have suggestions on an hard drive HBA I think I have an adaptec raid controller that supports JBOD. Is a regular HBA preferred over RAID JBOD as well? I want somthing that will just let freenas do its thing and not interfere with the ZFS RAID right?
