Last night when I got home, my NAS was unreachable. I logged into the iKVM to find it sitting at a grub error screen stating something like i386-pc not found (sorry, I can't remember exactly). Does anyone have any pointers for using grub rescue to fix this? I've not had much experience with grub rescue. I can provide the exact error message later today if that helps.

Secondly, does anyone have any ideas as how this may have happened? It happened to me once when I used the update feature in 9.3M4. Though, I didn't tell my freenas box to update or reboot for this occurrence of the error. My NAS is also on a UPS, so a power outage isn't likely.

I want to gather some additional data before I bother the dev with a bug report.

Can you post your hardware and the exact error?

Right now I'm thinking either a bad boot device that should be replaced or otherwise incompatible hardware.

I'm a bit baffled, when I powered on my NAS, it booted just fine..... perhaps the grub gnomes fixed it for me?? :)

I'm thinking you may be right--I must have a bad boot device.

I don't think there is a compatibility issue as my box worked just fine under 9.2.

In anywise, here is my system setup:
Intel i3-4130
2x Crucial 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Registered DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
ASRock E3C226D2I Mini ITX Server Motherboard
6x Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD30EFRX 3TB
Boot drive is a 4GB PNY USB stick
