Tried to do the update and system appears to update but there was no reboot. The "Boot" tab indicated that the system was running 9.10.1 and so I selected 9.10.1-U1 t make it active and rebooted but now the system starts and halts in "grub rescue" stating an "error: file 'normal.mod' not found. Not sure how to proceed.

Stick to 9.10 for now. A lot of people are having issues.

Thanks for the response. Currently I've attempted to upgrade the damaged GRUB using the 9.10 ISO image. I'm now booting (past the GRUB missing normal.mod) but it will not boot the 9.10 image even though its marked "active" . It comes up running FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201509022158 (shown as "default") in the System "Boot" tab at the top of my boot list. I've lost my users but the pools appear to be intact. I have several database backups that I can upload, but all are newer than the "default" version of firmware that's running FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201509022158 so I can't upload the database (which I assume will fix my missing users). Tonight I will try to do an update via the web interface to version 9.10. At that time I'll try to upload my database backup for version 9.10.

Completely rebuilt my boot USB drives with 9.10.1, imported the pools, and uploaded a previous 9.10 configuration file. All looks to be recovered. Waiting for a newer update than 9.10.1-U1 before I'll move forward with updates.

Same issue here. There appears to be a bug thread referencing similar/same issue here: https://bugs.freenas.org/issues/17790
