People are going to complain that you haven't given information about your hardware, but I'm guessing that your boot device (USB?) has a problem. If trying the update again doesn't work, you could try the "Manual Update" button, making sure to save your configuration first.

First time since going to 9.3 anything has failed to update.

I'm seeing the same thing, except that I'm updating from a slightly different version than Ray. We're both updating to the same version.

Feb 7 07:10:06 vault updated.py: [freenasOS.Installer:590] Delta package 9.3-STABLE-966464a-153f322-1a903c8->9.3-STABLE-00298d1-153f322-fbbc6c9 cannot upgrade current version 9.3-STABLE-00298d1-153f322-fbbc6c9

Feb 7 07:10:07 vault mountd[2088]: can't delete exports for /var/tmp/tmpwdK8Af/dev: Invalid argument mount option <size> is unknown
Feb 7 07:10:08 vault manage.py: [middleware.exceptions:38] [MiddlewareError: Unable to install packages]

Upon trying a manual update, my GUI appears to be stuck at the (3/3) Applying Update step. It's been there for about 20 minutes.

So maybe issue with the update package then?

Manual update never completed (at least, not after waiting about 40 minutes), but I canceled that dialog box, rebooted the system, and it now seems to think it's fully up to date.

Mine seemed to take a long time after the reboot. If it's stuck and you can see a failure on the console, send a pic of it, but maybe you just need to be a bit patient?

I see a failure which may be the root cause: In /data/update.failed, I see:

Running migrations for sharing:
- Migrating forwards to 0033_add_periodic_snapshot_task.
> sharing:0032_auto__add_field_cifs_share_cifs_storage_task
> sharing:0033_add_periodic_snapshot_task
- Migration 'sharing:0033_add_periodic_snapshot_task' is marked for no-dry-run.
! Error found during real run of migration! Aborting.

! Since you have a database that does not support running
! schema-altering statements in transactions, we have had
! to leave it in an interim state between migrations.

! You *might* be able to recover with: (migration cannot be dry-run; cannot discover commands)
! The South developers regret this has happened, and would
! like to gently persuade you to consider a slightly
! easier-to-deal-with DBMS (one that supports DDL transactions)
! NOTE: The error which caused the migration to fail is further up.
Error in migration: sharing:0033_add_periodic_snapshot_task

Neek,

I'd take that and put it in a bug ticket and explain what you were doing AND your hardware.

I'm having the same error as neek, first time I've never had a critical alert so it's nice to know that's working as it should :p, the services tab didn't seem to load up after reboot. Damn shame too because I was having issues with lagg and plugins and this update seems to maybe address both of those issues. I am running off a USB flashdrive. Just updated like I normally do.

@cyberjock, I saw you filed bug #7884 (https://bugs.freenas.org/issues/7884). Was it related to this particular failure? I was unable to get logged in to the bug tracking system (failing to activate my email.. not sure why). I'm trying the latest update, which includes the fix for 7884, but that update looks like it's getting stuck at 50% of the way through "Installing base-os (1/2)". I'm not near my filer so I'm a bit nervous about a manual update but I'll wait it out and see what happens..

Are there any good logs to see current progress of the update?

Is there a way to update from the command-line, to see a bit more verbose output of what's happening?

thanks!

Ok, mine just failed. It looks like I have no space left on the root device. I've installed FreeNAS on an 8GB flash stick, but my root device only shows size of 977MB

Code:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
freenas-boot/ROOT/FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201502070132 977M 939M 37M 96% /

Any ideas how I can grow that partition?

Looks like your drive is partitioned as 1GB for some reason. Your best bet is to backup your config file, blow away the partition table manually, then do a reinstall.

You might also want to make 100% sure it's 8GB. Seen lots of people that swore it was some other size than what they were seeing.

I just checked, and I can at least confirm with 100% certainty that I have a 4GB Sandisk Cruzer (SDCZ36-004G-B35) running on a SuperMicro MBD-X9SCM-F-O motherboard. Weird. Will try to reformat it. Thanks again.

Yeah, 4GB is a bit small. We recommend 8GB minimum (although a 4GB should work, but you might only be able to do 1 update before you are "full").
