Heyy

I had build a NAS with FreeNAS 9.2.1.1 and creat a CIFS Fiel Share. If I trie to copy some data it will go with 355 KB/s over an Kat 5 cable.

Hier some information to my NAS:

AMD A4-5300 APU, 3.4GHz
Gigabyte GA-F2A88XN-WIFI
GeIL Dragon (2x, 4GB, DDR3-1333 (PC3-10666))
3* WD Caviar Green, 64MB, 1TB, SATA-3
1* WD Caviar Black, 64MB 150GB Sata-3

Thanks for your help

Neither the AMD A series chips or that Realtek NIC play well with FreeNAS.

Try to upgrade to 9.2.1.2 first, there were huge CIFS fixes, although I've heard the AMD A series is not good with FreeNAS. If that doesn't fix it maybe you should try a different NAS software package. Not sure if NAS4Free will work any better with the CPU.

As joeschuck said, upgrade to the latest version of FreeNAS.

Try connecting your computer directly to your server and test the transfer with a large file. Replace the cable with a new one.

But I will try to connecting the server directly.

Are you using ZFS with 4gb ram? (My Mistake 8gb ram) That's not very good idea.. What are the full hardware specs / network setup?

Thanks,

I looked at the attached screen capture and it looks like you are transferring over wireless. Is that true?

EDIT: I'm not implying your NAS is connected wirelessly but you are transferring a file and it's path goes over wireless.

@Yatti420 I had bought all the component by https://www.digitec.ch/ . What does you mean with the network setup?

@gpsguy Thx. I will try it.

@joeschmuck Yes, I am conectet to a accssespoint and ther to a switch and then to the routher wehr the NAS is.

Update to NAS: I use a Intel Nwtworkcard CT Desktop 1GB/s. Same Problem.

So just to be clear, you are using a complete hardline from point to point? I would recommend you physically connect the NAS to the desktop PC with a single Ethernet cable and try to transfer again and report it. This will ensure it's not some other component.

He was asking about your network layout.

As for your slow speed, your first problem is using wireless. What sort of speeds do you expect from wireless?

FreeBSD will allocate all the RAM is can and does not release it very quickly so if FreeNAS only needed a large amount of RAM for 1 second, the system will hang on to it until it feels like releasing it. This doesn't mean thee RAM isn't available for use by other applications, it is. FreeBSD is just odd that way.

The problem is wireless.. As for the greens make sure the idle timers are set to 300 or disabled.. Then use freenas if you want to sleep drives etc..
