I'm having a weird problem: I have a FreeNAS box with 32 GB of RAM running FreeNAS 11, everything was fine until I rebooted the machine and now FreeNAS is only showing 24 GB of RAM available.

The BIOS shows 4x 8 GB sticks and "dmidecode -t memory" shows all 4x 8 GB sticks.
dmesg only says real memory = 26289897472 (25072 MB) avail memory = 24893108224 (23739 MB) which is incorrect.
I have nothing under Tunables and Autotune is off.

I've reseated the DIMMs and FreeNAS still only shows 24 GB.

I have definitely seen FreeNAS show all 32 GB previously, so this is a new issue.

Failing ram, failing memory slots, or dirty slots.

Try reseating (again) and moving memory about.

Hardware specs? Would be super important here and it's part of following the rules.

CPU: AMD FX-8320E BLACK
Motherboard: ASROCK 970M PRO3
RAM: G.SKILL Ares DDR3 1600

at this point, the RAM has survived three different builds, so I'm betting that's the root of the issue. and solar flares

Sounds like a case of dirty slots/contacts. Hope you have some good memory checks because the likelihood of bit errors high.
