hello, all

i increased RAM from 4 to 8GB, but the system is just showing 4:

Build FreeNAS-9.2.0-RELEASE-x64 (ab098f4)
Platform Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz
Memory 3562MB

but dmesg shows that system sees 8 GB but only 4 available:
real memory = 8589934592 (8192 MB)
avail memory = 3602190336 (3435 MB)

PC's BIOS also sees 8 GB.

read a thread with similar issue and he corrected this by deleting tunables. so i did the same, and i tried disabling them then enabling, restarting the system in between each action, but no change. (i am running 64 bit, right?)

thanks in advance for any help......

Yes you are running 64 bit. Which mainboard are you using? Is the BIOS reserving RAM for something (onboard graphics, etc.)?

hank: Just as an idiot check, what happens if you run a memtest.org boot disk on it and watch the test run? You'll see it test the RAM in 2GB blocks. Does it actually test all the way to 8GB of RAM?

warri, it's a HP mother board, not sure of model. it's set to use PCI-E for video. i actually saw RAM increased after i installed a graphic card.

cyberjock, memtest86 only sees 3583MB too :(, though BIOS sees 2GB in each of the 4 slots. does that i mean i'm condemned to 4 Gig?

Reset BIOS to factory defaults. If it still happens, scrounge around for any "compatibility" modes, etc.

Hello, I am having the same problem.

Here is my current freenas configuration
Build FreeNAS-9.2.1.3-RELEASE-x64 (dc0c46b)
Platform AMD E-350D APU 1600MHz with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics
Memory 7897MB

The motherboard I have is a ASRock E350M1 which supports a max of 16GB. So I purchased 2 8GB sticks of memory.

The amount of memory my BIOS shows is 16384MB with 256MB of shared memory. The total amount that should show is 16128MB in the System info page.

I tried to run a memtest USB stick since my box does not have an optical drive but I couldn't get it to load. Do you have any ideas of what change I can make to make this work.

Please disregard, I hadn't had coffee yet, somehow mistook 8GB for 16GB...

Thomas, you might want to send a PM to forum member - trinxie. According to his signature, he has the same motherboard with 16Gb RAM.
