FreeNAS 8.3.1-RELEASE-p1 made it's way to SF Friday of last week. It fixes a couple of small issues and provides a few small updates.

Serial numbers of disks are shown in the GUI.

Fixed a bug where extending an encrypted pool with more drives could blow away the encryption key.

Samba 3.6.13 (That seems to be missing from the rel notes, I'll investigate later)

Downloads are here:

Release notes are here:

8.3.1-p1 to 8.3.1-p2 flawlessly here. In the System Information page in the GUI I get FreeNAS-8.3.1-RELEASE-p2-x64 (r12686+b770da6_dirty). What is the b770da6_dirty ?

Re: FreeNAS-8.3.1-RELEASE-p2 ?

Looks like -p2 has been out since 4/10/2013. Haven't seen any announcement for it. Didn't want to start a new announcement thread, thought one of the admins would like to do that.

I don't know. I generally don't start using a new version even if its available until its been announced. I'd hate to be "off the beaten path" and not know it.

I've also seen releases that haven't been announced replaced by different versions or completely removed, so I usually wait for the announcement so I know it's official. Never hurts to be cautious.

Can an admin confirm if this is the official "p2" release?

It's promoted on the official website: http://www.freenas.org/download-releases.html. Seems official to me ;)

I noticed that too, but I've always seen an email, an annoucement in the Announcement section of the forum, plus a Facebook post. None of those have shown themselves for p2. So it makes me wonder if the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing and someone was fixing the download link, saw the p2 and assumed it was the latest official release.

And wonder what the "dirty" means

At http://www.freenas.org/whats-new/ I see:

"Written by admin on April 9, 2013.

WARNING: FreeNAS 8.3.1-RELEASE-p1 has been found to be fatally flawed. Please download FreeNAS 8.3.1-RELEASE-p2 instead."

The FreeNAS 8.3.1-RELEASE-p2 / x86 directory appears to be missing the 4 checksum files...

I went ahead and built the -p2 version and it doesn't say the word "dirty" in it. Maybe the -p2 fix was a quick and dirty fix but I didn't see any annotations to that affect. Whoever built it must have added that word before they built it on their system.
Code:
FreeNAS-8.3.1-RELEASE-p2-x64 (r12686+b770da6)

The "dirty" is not a problem in other words?
So will there be a -p3 too sionce the -p2 was built in a hurry?
