Hello,

Is an upgrade from Freenas 11.2-U6 to TrueNAS 12.1 possible or do I need to be on 11.3?

Thanks

Hey @marlonc,

To bump your own post is rarely a good thing. Many people look at posts that have not been answered yet and focus on these.

As for being possible or not, it is possible. If it is recommended is another point.

Here, I would not do it. I am in the process of upgrading my servers myself. I first leveled all of them to 11.2.8 (they were on different versions of 11.2.x). Tonight, I will upgrade 2 of them to 11.3.5. To be honest, I am not sure if I am ready to risk TrueNAS 12 yet. I rely on my FreeNAS server as critical infrastructure and do not want to take any risk. I wish to stay relatively up-to-date, but I think 11.3 will be enough for another little while, at least for me.

Good luck with your own update and do not forget to refresh your backups before each move. You do have backups don't you ?

Heracles,

Thanks for the quick response, much appreciated. I agree with you and will upgrade to 11.3.5 and wait till 12.1 is all solid as right now, i am not having any issues. Yes, I do have backups.

Its funny, in the new GUI, i don't see the option to upgrade to 11.2.x or 11.3.x only 12.x but when I logon to the legacy GUI I do see the 11.2.x and 11.3.x options.

Thanks,

12.1 is still in nightlies; not considered anything but for testing (and even that can be hit or miss) - mainly for development.

12.0 U1 is the current "stable" release, but from what I've seen and used of it, I went to 12 RC3; which seems to be a more functional build for my needs.

12.0-u1 is the current stable release and has been working pretty well given the limited issues popping up in the forums.
