I am trying to build my first FreeNAS server and could really use some feedback on the feasibility of the following hardware combination.

Motherboard: SUPERMICRO MBD-X9SCM-F-O ($180)
Processor: Intel Pentium G3220 Haswell Dual-Core 3.0GHz ($57)
Memory: 2 x Hynix 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Registered DDR3 1600 ($180)
Power Unit: CORSAIR CSM Series CS450M 450W ATX12V ($60)
Chasis: Thermaltake Core V21 Black Extreme Micro ATX ($70)

I still have 4 identical 1TB drives laying around the house which I will use to learn. Once I am ready to set up the system for long term use, I will probably go for 3 or 4 better (red) drives.

This system will only be used for very simple file storage, mainly for my photos and videos. No Plex server or torrent plugins.

Any concerns about this combo?

Edit: After some help from others, I settled on the following hardware:

Chasis: Thermaltake Core V21 CA-1D5-00S1WN-00
Motherboard: SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SLL-F-O
Processor: Intel Pentium G3220 BX80646G3220
PSU: SeaSonic SSR-360GP 360W
Memory: Crucial 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC CT102472BA160B
Flash Drive: SanDisk Cruzer Fit 16GB Low-Profile Flash Drive SDCZ33-016G-B35

The only concern to me is the PSU, I don't recommend the CS or CX series of Corsair for server usage. I recommend the AX series or the SeaSonic PSUs (the G-360 or the whateveritis-450 for example) ;)

Edit: there is a bigger concern however: the CPU doesn't fit the MB socket... (1150 vs. 1155)

Oh man... thanks for that catch. Must have mixed up my searches. :(

So then the question is: Change the MoBo or the CPU? Any recommendations?

Buy an X10 board. Ivy Bridge stuff is really dubious for ECC right now.

Also, that RAM will not work. For X10 boards, please read the guide I wrote on the matter (link is in my sig).

Bidule0hm is right about the PSU, too. Get the G-360 if you don't mind having fixed cables and the G-450 if you'd like a modular PSU.

I guess it all depends of your budget, the only thing I can recommend is to take a X10 rather than a X9.

Edit: good catch on the RAM, I didn't see the registered

Thanks for your help. Parts are ordered. Will report back how the build went. :)

PS: I updated the final setup in the OP.
