Hey guys i need some help with an issue with the fan control speed on my Supermicro X10SLM+LN4F. I have logged into the IMPI and changed the speed settings but for whatever reason it is not changing the speeds. The problem Im having is that the fans will spin really slow for 5-10 seconds and then ramp up to full speed for another 5-10 seconds. The temps in my server are fine, but it is just really annoying lol. If anyone knows a solution or can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated!!

What brand and model of fans are we talking about and what are the ipmi fan settings you are using?

Thanks for the reply, the system has a total of 5 Noctua NF-S12A PWM fans, 1 Noctua NF-A14 PWM, and 1 Noctua NF-F12 PWM. I have changed the settings in the IPMI to a few different settings and the fans will either be full out or they will drop to 300rpm for a few seconds and then back up to full speed for a few seconds. But they names were optimal and standard that I have tried the most.

I have not seen this thread yet, I will read it and then get back to you.

I have seen some people mention 'ipmitool' for command line, but currently tweaks and changes there are over my head

So basically need a fan splitter, followed up by typing in some code within the shell using ipmitool

You need a fan splitter if you want all the fans to react on one sensor. If you hook the fans to fan1-4 they will follow the CPU temp.

okay Im not totally sure if i entered it all correctly (I would assume not). Currently all my fans are running at upper non recoverable maxed out rpms. Sensors FAN2-FAN3 lower 200 300 500 while the upper was 700 800 1000. FAN1 sensor is my CPU with a Noctua F12 lower 200 300 500 upper 900 1100 1300. But like i said currently all fans are running full speed

Did you try to completely power off the system as I mentioned before?

Try rebooting the BMC.

Did a total power down, unplugged the system for about an hour (added an SSD for Plex) booted up and all fans are running at max. IPMI GUI says upper non recoverable on all fan sensors

Hi buddy,

Had the same problem. Just disconect the power and plug it back in and it should all work. Adversely take the cmos out and put it back in. Critical fan values should have changed.
