Errors after updating from 8.0 to 8.01B5

I followed the instructions to upgrade from 8.0 release to 8.01B5 from a CD. On reboot, the system pukes on updating the database and drops me to single user mode. If I exit from single user mode, the system starts up successfully.
My console log is attached (it was too large to paste into the post).

You must mean beta-4, beta-5 hasn't been released yet. I also had trouble upgrading from 8.0 to beta-4. I didn't get stuck where you did, but the bottom line was I had to reset to factory config, Auto Import my pool, and re-enter my settings by hand. It really didn't take that long, less time than you've spent trying to figure out what's wrong.

On the plus side, having now completed the upgrade to beta4, my write speed over a gig-E connection has gone up from 33MB/Sec to 60MB/Sec., so I consider the small hassle well worth it.
