I have FreeNAS 8.0 RELEASE installed on a server (FreeNAS-8.0-RELEASE-i386)

I wanted to install one of the nightly builds to get ISCSI working again on ESXi 5.0.

So I did the firmware upgrade from the web portal (GUI).

Here is what I used: FreeNAS-8r7539-i386-GUI_Upgrade.xz

I input the correct SHA256 sum and it is successful. It says the following:

You have successfully uploaded a firmware!

When I reboot and go to System Information nothing really happened. I see this.

FreeNAS Build: FreeNAS-8.0-RELEASE-i386

I assumed it was because I needed to install 8.0.1 RC1 perhaps, so I did the same process, but nothing changed.

This leads me to believe there are additional steps required that I need to do because the upgrade is obviously not working.

Any help with this will be great!

Thank you!

Hi jan.scott,

To go from 8.0-RELEASE to 8.0.1RC1 you have to update via a cd install. The image size for FreeNAS increased for 1GB to 2GB around 8.0.1 Beta3. Since the partition sizes changed updating isn't as simple as writing the new version out to the "other" OS partition....you need to be running something that's not booted from the disk you are updating.

During the update you config is copied to memory and copied back after the new partitions are written out. The update is safe but save a copy of your config just in case.
