Discrepency between ALERTS and Dashboard? (TrueNAS-12.0-RELEASE)

This is the first time I've seen this error, and it's only in ALERTS, but isn't reflected in the Dashboard (see screenshots below).

Version:
TrueNAS-12.0-RELEASE

I'm wondering two things:

1. Which to believe.
2. What to do to prudently protect my data.

Appreciate any help or insights. Thanks!

Both.

Your data is currently safe, which was the drive's onboard abilities to move data out of bad sectors without the whole disk failing.

SMART reads that information and sees that the numbers are increasing (and FreeNAS gets that from SMART and logs it as an alert).

You should then respond by confirming the situation:
smartctl -a /dev/ada0

And when you see that the reported errors are indeed there (which we can guess that they will be), decide that this disk is in the process of dying and replace it before it fails.

Because the data integrity of the pool is maintained (you haven't lost even a single bit of data) and the drive remains in operation, there's nothing to show in the overall pool status.

@sretalla -- Thank you for this great explainer.

The errors are indeed there, so I'll work to get a new disk. I suspect the guide will be easy to follow for replacing a disk.

Thanks very much!
