Hello, this is my first post and I'm completely new to freenas so please be comprehensive.

I am going to build my first freenas server from an old lenovo M83 desktop, will be using an ssd as boot device but here isn't my problem.

My issue is that I only have two 2 tb hdd and one 1 tb hdd. I would like to be able to have some sort of raidz setup as these are not new hard drives and even tho their won't be any really important data, I still don't want to loose it all. I also need to have more than 2 tb of total storage as the main goal of this build is to increase my total storage.

From what I have been able to find, I won't be able to do any raidz bigger than 2tb total using this config and my only option to get more storage would be to simply strip storage.

I have also thought of creating one 3tb pool using 2 of the drives and creating another 2tb pool to wich I would backup some of the more important data but I fear this isn't a great idea for some reason.

Anyhow, thanks for any response and goog day to you all.

*PS : excuse my english I am not native english.

With 2 2TB and 1 1TB disk you will only have 1 TB capacity in RAIDZ1
