HI!

I want to build a NAS for file storage (backup, music & movie mainly) and some files for FTP usage.

I have a two motherboards and one CPU that I do not use today, and I would like to use them if possible.

Also I don't want to buy all the HDD now, but maybe in 2 or 3 steps, (due flooding in Thailand/price and that HDD would normally be cheaper in the future)

At the moment my storage needs are between 3 to 4 TB and therefore I would like to have 6 to 8TB to start with and then later add more HDD's when needed.

The MB
Gigabyte GA-PH67A-UD3-B3 Intel 1155, 2 x Sata 3.0 + 4 x Sata 2.0 - http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3766#sp
Gigabyte GA-PA65-UD3-B3 Intel 1155, 2 x Sata 3.0 + 4 x Sata 2.0 - http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3795#ov

The CPU
Intel® Core™ i3-2100 Processor (3M Cache, 3.10 GHz) - http://ark.intel.com/products/53422/

DDR3 Need to buy
Kingston's KHX1333C9D3B1RK2/8G x 2 so total of 16GB I did read that memory was important. - http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/KHX1333C9D3B1RK2_8G.pdf

HDD in step 1 Need to buy
WD30EZRX 3TB SATA 6Gb/s, (SATA 3.0), RPM = IntelliPower, 64MB, 3.5" x 2 = 6TB Total - http://wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=120

Also have 1 disc controller not in use:
Xsonic SATA PCI express 2x eSATA MODEL : FG-ES3132-2E-C2-01-BC01 SIL-3132 Chipset so that I then can have a total of 8 HDD in the NAS.

So too the questions:

1. I read somebody worries about driver compatabillity with FREENAS, would the parts above work, onboard LAN etc?
2. Is there any problems to start with 2 HDD's and then later add 2HDD's and then 2 HDD's ? Several partions is ok?
3. Since I already have the MB/CPU, and I did read that memeory was important is this "overkill" or an OK setup?
4. I also ready that you underclock the CPU/DDR3 why?
5. Any other tips & tricks?

If any have any useful information I would be thankful!
