Hi,

I am new to freenas and have setup my system about a month back. I have received an error message on the GUI that says "The volume Data state is DEGRADED: One or more devices has experienced an error resulting in data corruption. Applications may be affected."

Status of "'zpool status -v" is

My specs are as follows:

Intel Pentium Dual Core G4560
MSI C236A WORKSTATION motherboard
2 x 8gb DDR4 Crucial ECC UDIMM 2133 mhz.
Corsair 450W RM450 80 Plus Gold
1 x 2TB Segate HHD
2x 1 TB Segate HDD's

Can anyone help me find a solution to this? The 1 TB harddisks are a few years old and I suspect one of them may be dying. If that is the case, if I know which one to replace first I am happy to replace the drive.

Hi, Thanks for your replies. As per the suggestions, I have replaced the 'dead' drive and re silvered without errors. I then ran a volume scrub.

After the volume scrub, I got another alterin on the GUI "Nov. 1, 2017, 4:51 p.m. - The volume Data state is DEGRADED: One or more devices has experienced an error resulting in data corruption. Applications may be affected.". I can see that another drive 'ada0' is now reporting its state as "degraded" on the Volume status screen. So I ran 'smartctl -x /dev/ada0' and below are my results:

Based on my novice reading of the above, I think the drive is fine (albeit old). When I replaced the first drives, I cleaned out the case and therefore may have inter-changed the SATA drives. Do I have a bad SATA cable?

Yes, it can be a sata cable. Also, it looks like the drive is running a bit too hot, please check if the fans are still turning and the airflow is still ok after you cleaned out the case.

Seagate drives - the 7200 RPM ones especially - are known to run hot. I have 2 Ironwolf 6TBs and they are constantly between 40 - 45 C.
