Hello,

I am new to freenas and after having learned to setup my simple home server over the past few days I have come across a permissions issue. I have a volume called "drive1" and I created a dataset within drive 1. I then changed the owner and group of the dataset to reflect that of drive1 (which I can access fine using nfs). However, the problem arises when I look at the dataset from nautilus in my ubuntu (12.10) client. It still says the owner and group are what they originally were and so I cannot write to it. Anyone have an idea what could be going on here?

Another note......when I ssh into my server, the permissions are correct there as well. So far the permissions are only incorrect in nautilus on my ubuntu client.

I have a similar problem i think. I have windows clients. So i use Windows ACL.
If i in Freenas GUI change the permissions and press ok, the changes i did are not there when i access "change permissons" on that dataset again.

However i am able to access my share from the client and change permissions there.
Also, the dataset permissions are correct, after a day or two (no sure).

I think there is some delay in these settings... at least for the GUI to update itself.

Just change permissions, and access/change them from the client side. The FreeNAS GUI settings are ment to be a "initial" setting anyway.

Sounds like similar issues, but different. The changes I make in the freenas GUI persist when I check them again. The permissions are changed immediately on the server side. I double checked on the command line. I am using UNIX acl though, so that might be where your issues are stemming from.

I was able to change the permissions client side, but it's still doing fishy stuff. For example, when I dragged files into the folder after changing the permissions client side, on the server the dataset still said it was empty.
