I had a message from my FreeNAS that there was an update available. So I went to system->update and told it to download/install. About 5 minutes later, I get this message:

CRITICAL: The boot volume state is ONLINE: One or more devices has experienced an error resulting in data corruption. Applications may be affected.

Not sure where to go from here. Everything appears to still be working, but I can't run the update now.

What's the size of the boot disk? How many boot environments do you have showing in System -> Boot (you may need to remove some older ones to get more space on the boot device). Did the boot device fail? If so, System -> Boot -> Boot Status will indicate it is degraded. In this case, install the latest STABLE on a new USB stick.

Right now there are only 2 boot environments. I deleted all the old ones, and the ones I have left are the build I was running prior to doing the update. The boot device did not fail, that I know of Under system->Boot->Boot Status is just has 0's for Read/write/checksum. No mention about being degraded.

It's an 8GB SanDisk USB Stick, and I bought it brand new about 2 weeks ago.

Did you ever get this solved? I'm having a similar issue.

This problem was a bad boot device, replace USB stick, reinstall and upload configuration.

Similar problem here. I probably did this to myself. I had a degraded boot volume (one of the mirrored USB drives) after I upgraded FreeNAS. I shutdown, removed the bad USB drive, reformatted it, and then attached it as a new mirrored drive (rather than replacing the bad drive shown on the list; which is what I think I should have done).

So now I have three drives shown on my list of boot drives:
da9p2 ONLINE
da8p2 ONLINE
8946834192189675691 UNAVAIL

The UNAVAIL USB drive shown is formerly the reformatted and reinstalled da9p2. I can't figure out now how to delete or detach the UNAVAIL drive. When I highlight it, I only have a REPLACE option.

Any thoughts on how to best proceed to clean this up would be greatly appreciated.
