hi
just set up a freenas system but have a quick question.
when I attempt to create a zpool volume of 4 drives. I go through the steps in volume manager & when I select add volume
the display switched to volume manager for a few seconds then the volume manager disappear from the screen.
is this normal does it mean that freenas is creating volume in the background or are there a problem
should the volume manager still displayed until the volume is created.

Welcome to the forums!

First, please follow the forum rules (they are short) and provide the data requested about your system. For this question all we would need to know if the version of FreeNAS you are using and which browser.

Also, I can't say I've ever seen what you are describing. My question back to you would be to ask if the pool was actually created? Creating a pool is typically very fast.

Click on the storage tab and see if your newly created volume is listed. It's been so long since I've created a volume I can't remember what the default behavior is.

hi
thanks for replies.
I think problem lies with 2 of the 4 hard drives I was using.
As if I try with just the 2 I have no problem but as soon as I add either of the other two I run into problems.
I thought I would of got sort of warning if this was the case but it seems all what happens is volume manage stops with no volume being created
you live & learn I guess

As @joeschmuck said, post your hardware specs so we can see what you're running.

Also maybe post the output of "zfs status -v" from the CLI so we can see what you've managed to create. Are the drives you are using new? Have they been properly burned in?
