Please PM me your email address
I sent you my email, I think...

Or you may carry on with those directions there, they are the steps I followed.
By posting that link, are you telling me you are good to do this on your own?

I can give it a try. I am about to give it up for a bit though. Tired as can be and stupid Windows decided to install 245 updates!
If I have questions, can I email you?

I just sent you a zip file containing the files you will need for the flash tomorrow.
Let me know if it arrives or not...

Edit: It seems both our email providers will not allow zip files to be sent,
so I will try and upload them here... Nope, server says the file is too big (2.3MB).
Will try to delete some of the files you don't need... That seemed to work!

Great! DownLoad & Unzip this file, tranfer the folder READ-ME to your desktop and print the
text file for reference.
Cut the other files from the folder and paste them DIRECTLY on the DOS boot flash drive.
Follow the directions in the text file and you should be good

Protip: the next time just rename your_file.zip to your_file.zip.txt ;)

Thanks B!
Hey man, you are either working or you are up really late or very early, it's like 5:30 over there isn't it?

Got it, printing it...

At the C: prompt - type in your choice from the two options below

1) If you WANT the boot ROM, type: sas2flsh -o -f 2118it.bin -b mptsas2.rom

2) If you DON'T want the boot ROM, type: sas2flsh -o -f 2118it.bin

What do I want? I don't know what boot ROM is... Thanks!

Remove the two mini SAS connectors from your motherboard and boot into the FreeNAS GUI.

Do you mean to remove the SAS ribbon cable? I am sure the SAS Connection Ports are soldered on... I am not being a smart-ass here, this is a serious question. Maybe you mean something else?

Usually you don't want it.

Yes, just unplug the SAS cables.

In IT mode, the boot ROM would be used only if you choose to boot your system off one of the drives connected
to the controller. I did not install it on my m1015, imho, it's just not needed for freenas.
ribbon cables connect with plugs at the motherboard right? That's where I mean.

Just curious about this statement...
Can you give details about this HDD such as capacity, speed and what method you used to connect it
to your motherboard please.
The FreeNAS user manual frowns upon the use of a hard disk for the OS files.
Most of us use either a high quality USB flash drive plugged into the typeA port
of the motherboard, or a small capacity (i.e. 32GB) SSD drive plugged into a SATA port.
If you have used a regular 3.5in hard disk, you might want to reconsider one of the alternatives
for the reduction of heat and savings of power.

Regular 3.5in hard disk...
Since my servers are racked, I didn't want a USB sticking out.
What capacity of a USB do I need?

the command is:
Code:
megarec -writesbr 0 sbrempty.bin

Let's flash the controller first, we can deal with that later...

That's what I have... I even just retired it. I am using zero and not an oh ("O")...

The screenshot you posted...
At the A: prompt, you typed: megarec.exe
this is incorrect
