Hello,

I'm running a headless server based on standard x86 hardware. Yesterday I decided to give 9.3 a try. I download the upgrade and used the WebGUI to upgrade (from 9.2.1). First problem that occured: the link to the upgrade file shows to trace of the checksum. But ok I eventually found it elsewhere.

After the upgrade and the automatic reboot I couldn't access the system, no WebGUI, no ping ... so I had to connect a display and keyboard in order to find out whats going on. The FresBSD bootloader (not Grub but the old one) showed two entries now and the standard one didn't successfully boot but when I chose the second one the 9.3 upgrade finished. I was able to access the WebGUI and all settings and Volumes survived the upgrade!

I played around a little and invoked the new web driven update function. A new version was found, installed all was good. Since this morning, however, I'm unable to access the WebGUI anymore. I have to NIC in the system, one with a fixed IP and the other one using DHCP. I usually use the fixed IP for accessing the NAS but the browser couldn't establish any connection. Then I tried the IP from the other Interface and here the WebGUI presented the login screen, but when entering the credentials and clicking on login only some fragments ob the WebGUI will load:

I performed another update from the shell driven update tool but it didn't solve the problem.

Do you have any hints for me?

Many thanks in advance.

Looks like you are using FireFox but try a different web browser for the heck of it, and list which version of FreeNAS 9.3 you are running.

While 9.3 is still in beta, you should have a monitor and keyboard on your system because you are likely to see issues. I'm curious if there is an issue using two NICs, I wouldn't think so at this time.

Thanks for the reply, Joe.

Its version:
FreeBSD 9.3-RELEASE-p5 #3 a0f03fc: Tue Nov 25 15:13:44 PST 2014

Ok that is somewhat embarrasing for me. It was actually one of the NICs in my desktop that failed so I couldn't reach the NAS via one of the subnets. Still strange that I get to see that defekt website when I try it via the other NIC/subnet. I tried with Chrome and IE, same result. But not a serious problem for me now.

Try upgrading to the current version and giving it a test. I'm just curious if this is an upgrade issue as I have read some folks were actually trying that and several were not going so well. Lets sat is is an upgrade failure, your best bet may be to restore to factory defaults and reconfigure from scratch. The wizard will pop up after the system comes up and you can make certain changes. You will need the console so you will know what IP address was assigned your NIC as the default is DHCP.

Just backup your current configuration so you can restore it if things don't go as you planned.

EDIT: Use the System Information Build info to identify the FreeNAS version or the browser tab will also show you the version "FreeNAS-9.3-BETA-3f455d0-x64" which is the current one as of this message. I find it easier to use the latter one as you can easily link it to the download site images.

There are no updates available for my system now ... huh? wait a minute ...

uname -a tells me:
FreeBSD freenas.local 9.3-RELEASE-p5 FreeBSD 9.3-RELEASE-p5 #3 a0f03fc: Tue Nov 25 15:13:44 PST 2014

The webinterface tells me:
FreeNAS 9.3-BETA 2014-11-30 00:46:04 GMT

Guess I'm confused because of my lack of understanding ...

So you have the most current version as of right now. Uname is giving you the FreeBSD version that FreeNAS is based on.
