Ok.. I'm no expert..

I installed Coral when it first came out and its been setting idle for a couple months due to a hardware issue..

Just got it back up and running on vmware and logged into the GUI and did an upgrade...

Upgrade applied fine.. But now it keeps repeating and the last two lines say:

freenas ini: getting repeating too quickly on port

Not sure where to start to fix this one...

Hum... I didn't know you could upgrade from Coral to FreeNAS 11. Also your error message you typed appears to be wrong, I think you meant "freenas init: getty repeating too quickly on port". A quick Google search would tell you that this was a problem in the not so distant past (several trouble tickets) but should be fixed.

My advice is you perform a clean install of FreeNAS 11.0-U2, not an upgrade. As I said before, I didn't think you could upgrade from Coral to FreeNAS 11 and it actually work, but I could be wrong. And since you are doing this in a VM, it should be quick work.

Appreciate you input....

I've been working 60 hour shift for the past month and have been wanting to get this up and running.. So I rushed.. I did a search on this site, but didn't seem to come up with an answer.. Heck I might have searched the wrong thing.. LOL

Like a good IT guy, I didn't do a current snapshot.. But luckily I have an older one and am going to give it a shot...
If that doesn't work, I'm going to take you advice and just do a clean install..

Thanks again..
Dave

I understand the 60 hour work weeks, thety don't bother me much until I start realizing I'm working 60+ hours a week. I'm doing really great when I put in a 45 hour week and all the work is getting done. This is one reason I'm looking for a new job, to lighten up the stress. I wish retirement was on the table but I've still got a few years to go. I'm old, just not that old.

As for your issue, your data should still be in-tact. You just need to rebuild the FreeNAS boot device, or VM in your situation.

You can't. I'm not even sure what does happen with 11.0 and later, but results are either a clean config or a completely broken install.

Definitely start with a new installation.

Thanks for confirming, that is what I thought.

Yea, I guess I just thought it was possible since it showed up in the updates..
I tried one more time after rolling back a snapshot and it got stuck in a grub boot loop...

So I'm in the process of building another FreeNAS server with 11 Update 2...

Thanks again..
