Boot drive replacement

I have replaced a failed USB boot drive as per manual (I am in 11.1U6)
System has rebooted and is currently showing 'Import Volume' with the activity animation. How long should this take? I have a 5x3TB drive ZFS store.

You should normally ignore the initial wizard and just restore your config file...

Try cancelling it.

Thanks - I had to do a reboot to get there. I think I have a dodgy replacement boot drive so I will try again!

Small, old, SSDs make better boot drives. Something in the 30 to 40GB range like this:

USB memory sticks are super unreliable. You could run from a SSD for a decade easy where you will probably need to replace the USB stick every two or three years.

Thanks for the wisdom. I did try using a m-SATA SSD in a USB3 adaptor but it gave errors as indicated in the FreeNAS console. They both came from China for a pittance so I guess you get what you pay for! Unfortunately I don't have a spare SATA port to use an old full size drive since I do have a couple available.
Anyways - the replacement USB stick is up and running for now.
