So as I have a new install I need to put all my backed up files back on the server. These files are on an external HDD.
How to I add the external drive so I can access the files and transfer them back onto the server? I've plugged it in and it shows up in 'view disks' as da1

The server is a HP proliant micro server.

How is that external HDD formatted?

http://doc.freenas.org/index.php/Volumes#Importing_Volumes

FreeNAS® supports the import of disks that have been formatted with UFS, NTFS, MSDOS, or EXT2.

Maybe mount it on a compatible computer etc and transfer the files to the NAS.. I thought about a linux jail but not sure if it comes with disk support? Easier to just mount it on a known good computer and transfer..

Thanks. so I can add the drive as it's ext4. So will have to transfer the files manually from a PC over the network.
