Hi,
I am using a FreeNAS 8.2 64bit server as my Business Data Server. It's used to store business files/information on. I would like to back up the HDD to an portable external HDD to take off site?
My hardware is as follows:
HP ProLiant N40L Ultra Micro Tower Server
1 X 2 TB HDD
4 GB Transcend Flash drive.
Everything else is standard on the box.
1 X 2TB external Western Digital passport drive.
I run FreeNAS from the flash drive as I only have the 1 HDD.
How would I go about creating the backup? I believe I can use either the RSYNC or CRON JOB functions, but I have no idea how. I have seen examples of RSYNC being used to copy to another PC, but not to an external HDD on the same machine. And as for the CRON JOBs, I have no idea how the scripting works.
Can someone please point me in the right direction, links will definitely be useful. OH, I have very little experience with FreeNAS or Linux , in fact until my buddy mentioned FreeNAS to me 10 months ago I had never heard of it. I'm also not familiar with some of the terminology used in the threads so I would appreciate it if the explanations are kept in la-mans terms.
Thank you.
