I created a ticket for this item but I'd like to find out if it affects anyone else... http://support.freenas.org/ticket/1837

I saved my 8.3.0-RC1 config file (freenas-FreeNAS-8.3.0-RC1-x64.db) and after futzing around I needed to recreate my boot flash drive. After booting up the unconfigured 8.3.0-RC1 I restored the config file I recently created. During the first reboot it appears the software is possibly converting the database. During the second reboot they system hangs at "Loader /boot/default/loader.conf" and never moves from there.

Could someone please test this out and report back your results?

Thanks.

After messing around with it quite a bit more, it will boot some times but other times it will fail. Once it boots up it works fine for all successive boots. Not sure what is going on, could be as you suggest a failing USB drive. I'll have to order a few HS drives, one for the boot and the second for my jails. If the problem still happens then maybe there is some hardware incompatibility between 8.0.4 and 8.3.0-RC1. If true then I'll roll back to 8.0.4 and live with it until I can justify the cost of a new MB, CPU, and RAM.

In my prior testing in a VM there were no problems but on my physical machine is where this occurred. VM's are nice though.
