I know about the IBM 1015, but I'd just prefer to go with something LSI branded.

I'm leaning towards 1x 9201-16i as it's cheaper than 2x 9211-8i

is anyone here using a 9201-16i?

but I was wondering if SMART works out of the box for the 9201-16i?
or is further configuration required?

If you're buying new, then yes, that's probably cheaper.

The M1015 appears to be manufactured by LSI and IBM just sticks a part number label on the board. If it were me, I'd get three M1015's instead of the 9201-16i, because I hate magic expensive hard-to-replace hardware, and that'd net me a spare controller.

Since I don't have a 9201-16i, I can't comment on SMART.
