So I have seen some posts on here about SMB issues but I haven't really found a solution that works for me.

I am using windows 10 and I cannot access my shares by either name or ip. If I boot into U5 everything works fine.

Also I get errors when trying to check for updates in U6 but not in U5. Network tab has my DNS info in there but it seems that its not actually applying.

Update server could not be reached

<urlopen error [Errno 8] hostname nor servname provided, or not known>

Sorry 2 separate issues but maybe they arent... I don't know.

Let me know info you want and I will supply it. Any help is appreciated.

To add to it my nas doesn't seem to be listening on 445 or 139... however smb is started/running. Riddle me that.

AFAIK, the major SMB difference between U5 & U6 is U6 disabled SMB1. Can't tell from your info but 1) have you verified Win10 is using SMB2/3 & 2) have you applied the fix to reenable SMB1 in U6? (I don't use Win10 so don't know how to check it. On 1 of my Win7 systems, I found only SMB1 running when checked)

Good luck - hope this helps.

For info, to restore SMB1 per link below:

from: https://www.ixsystems.com/blog/library/freenas-11-1-u6/

SMB1 has been disabled by default for security reasons. If legacy clients are no longer able to connect, type this command in the Shell, then restart the SMB service:

sysctl freenas.services.smb.config.server_min_protocol=NT1

If that resolves the issue, you can make that setting permanent by going to System ? Tunables ?Add Tunable and creating a Tunable with these settings:

Variable: freenas.services.smb.config.server_min_protocol

Value: NT1

Type: Sysctl

Hey thanks for the reply...

So as far as SMB1 goes its disabled...

PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> Get-SmbServerConfiguration | select enablesmb1protocol

enablesmb1protocol
------------------
False

prior to checking that i did try that command and then restarting SMB but that didn't work

sysctl freenas.services.smb.config.server_min_protocol=NT1

Tomorrow I may try booting back into U5 and see if it is listening on 445 or 139...

Ok booted into U5...I can get to my share...

and I can see that freenas is listening on 445 now... in U6 it is not.

also for what its worth my pc is connecting to the nas with SMB 3.1.1

Well I updated from U5 to U6 and its working still.

I was using the same config the whole time.

Wish I could tell you what I did differently to fix it but I can't.
