I see that these are available fairly cheap. Can you install TrueNAS on these?

TrueNAS can install on almost any x86-64 system - I'm not directly familiar with the Azure StorSimple hardware, but some based research shows them to be a pair of Xeon-based systems in a Xyratex HB-1235 chassis with a shared SAS backplane. Some documentation on the hardware appears to exist in a GitHub repository, but I can't verify its authenticity:

You'd likely need to run only a single (primary) controller, and I can't say that all of the hardware would be supported (the 40GbE NICs and "NVRAM" module might be a challenge)

The device itself may also have its BIOS protected by a password, making the initial boot and installation difficult.

Yes, you can install TrueNAS on these. I'm running one of those with TrueNAS + VM (windows) without any issues.

Hey, I've just picked up one of these Storsimle appliances - you wouldn't be able to give a simple overview of the Truenas installation onto it would you please? It'd be a huge a help
