Hello guys
I am trying to add a new user for another computer to access my NAS.
I did this exactly like it's shown in a youtube tutorial (Lawrence Systems permission guide), but I still can't access the share even after redoing everything 10+ times.
"10.0.0.10\data1 could not be accessed" idk why

Here are all the permissions:

When you try to access the share, are you using the correct user?

I just set everything to full control but the new user still has no access.
This makes no sense to me... Maybe my truenas install is broken?

Can you clarify exactly how you are accessing the share? Do you have any other shares that work? Do you have any advanced permissions set?

I am accessing the share via the windows explorer -> map network drive or via the address bar. (tried both multiple times)
yes I have a working share that shares another dataset, where I have been storing my backups. (accessing from a different pc obviously)
I think all the permissions that I've set can be seen in the pictures I posted before.

When using "Map Network Drive", you are selecting "Connect using different credentials", correct?

If everything works for one user with one dataset, but it doesn't work for a different user with a different dataset, I'd likely say that your TrueNAS install is just fine, but that you're looking at a misconfiguration somewhere.

In order to rule out as many issues as possible, let's try some specific troubleshooting steps:
  1. From the working computer, connect using the currently non-working user account to their dataset. Will this work?
  2. From the non-working computer, connect using the currently working user account to their dataset. Does this work? These steps help us isolate if this is a network/computer configuration issue, or a TrueNAS configuration issue.
  3. Assuming that the first one doesn't work, and the second one does, then we'll dive more into the share setup.

Can you provide screenshots of:
  • Share settings. (Sharing -> SMB -> three dots -> Edit)
  • Share ACL
  • Filesystem ACL

I changed the name of the dataset/recreated it because someone on reddit suggested that it might help. (it didn't)

Your settings are currently set to allow all users to access, and all users to view.

I'd guess that you mean to have "Allow Guest Access" enabled in the share settings, which is not a default setting.

If the goal is not to allow anonymous user access (aka Guest Access), then you need to double check your user's username/password settings, and how you are logging in to the server.

I set all stuff that I know to allow most of the stuff so that I can get it working somehow and then start working from there... but yeah idk what's wrong
also I know that all the permissions set rn are chaotic but yeah I'm working on it

Do you have "Allow Guest Access" enabled? It's an advanced setting for the SMB share.

Your screenshots do not show any changes to the Advanced settings.
