I'm running a atom D2700MUD, suppose to be 64bit ready with 4gb of ram.

My Atom had the same problem. You have a few choices:

1. Install the 64 bit onto the thumbdrive on another machine, then plug it into the server.
2. Use the 32-bit version. Obviously you won't be able to use more than 4GB of RAM. :(
3. Put in a ticket to have the fix for FreeBSD implemented into FreeNAS. Someone else had this problem too so you should make sure no ticket currently exists. I'd try the nightly just in case the fix was already implemented. Tickets can be found at support.freenas.org.

Sorry what do you mean " try the nightly? "
If I use 32bit and only 4gb ram can I still use raid-z1? Its only a home server?

Instead of using the 8.3.0 build you use the "nightly" that's the bleeding edge code for FreeNAS. It does have the drawback of sometimes having partially implemented new features and bugs, but if you are having a unique problem it is often easiest to try to the nightly builds before you create a ticket just to make sure its still broken.

Didn't answer your other question.. "If I use 32bit and only 4gb ram can I still use raid-z1? Its only a home server?"

That's open for debate. It may work fine, it may not. The manual recommends 6GB for ZFS because then you are sure to not have problems. Just like my guide says, anything with less than 6GB of RAM can have unintended performance or reliability problems. Some people had no problems for months, then suddenly the server won't stay on for 24 hours with just 4GB of RAM.

OK cheers. Need to try and stick with 64bit and thoughts why reporting would only be showing only network interface. Looks like its not displaying the graphs is the webgui? But the zoom in and out buttons are there?

Too many beers, dumbass(j/k). Did I confuse you yet? ;)

http://sourceforge.net/projects/freenas/files/

Click nightlies, then the newest and go for it!

If something is horribly wrong and the nightly won't install or won't boot try a previous nightly. Nightlies are typically only meant for testing of new features and are not expected to "work". Some nights are skipped because sometimes FreeNAS won't compile.

No, didn't help, looks like ill have to keep with either 32bit running 4gb and raidz1, or 64bit running 8gb and raidz1 but with no on board display and no monitoring info/graphs!!! erm???

is there much difference between installing new or upgrade apart from keeping the settings etc?

weird, done another install of 64bit and is working, still no useful on-board display out. but least the monitoring etc seem better.

cheers all, and for anyone interested, and after playing with freenas on a laptop my current nas is as follows;

case made from a floor standing smartups UPS. (bit of robbing from other PC shells and good welding!!!)
motherboard is a D2700MUB
Ram 2x 4gb ddr3 laptop 204pin
300w atx generic PSU
PCI-e mini sata card provising 2 sata's
Icydock 4x 3.5" bay
4gb USB drive
FREENAS 64bit

NAS.jpg

could of made it smaller if i bothered to made the case completely.
