The Realtek NIC will likely be a problem for you. You can always add an Intel NIC as an expansion card, but buying a motherboard with an appropriate port is probably the best route.

You'll also run in to problems with the audio and other consumer "features" of that board. They don't always play nice with FreeBSD.

Building a budget FreeNAS machine is usually fraught with problems. If your goal is to create a budget NAS, then I would suggest that FreeNAS is not the right product for you. NAS4Free or OpenFiler might be more appropriate for what you're trying to accomplish.

To help me understand, it sounds like you are: (1) trying to build a FreeNAS server for yourself so you can gain knowledge in using FreeNAS, so that you can (2) build a second FreeNAS server for your uncle's small company.

If your only goal here is to learn FreeNAS, then setting up FreeNAS in a VM is hands down, the best way to get experience with the product. You can make yourself a small array with a handful of ~10GB drives, and play around with adding the drives, building the arrays, configuring shares, playing with jails, etc.

= YES EXACTLY THAT

I am an engineering student, and I do have some knowledge of electronics, but I never did build a computer by myself, so it will be good to learn hardware mistakes and software errors.

I already paid for the computer and is already at home, I will build it today, VM would be a problem because of speed I want to have a small NAS machine at home for torrents and media, I will not put any valuable data for now.

I had some problems with the h81i-plus board, my board came with 707 bios, and my processor needs 2100 bios, I will be sending it back to the vendor.

I will enjoy that unexpectedly my father is in the United States, so I decide to spend a little more and buy an ASRock C2550D4I, with 16 GB of ECC ram unbuffered, thank you guys for any advice.

I will lose some money to sell out of the box items, but it will be worthy, I need to buy better hard drives later on.
