I restarted a few times. Or do you mean try the ipmi power cycle?
Yes, restart the IPMI. You need to unplug the system to restart the IPMI by it's nature OR restart the IPMI from it's interface

Ok, I tried that and I also increased my thresholds at the upper level. It seems like they are switching from completely off the full blast repeatedly. If they hit the upper level does that make them turn off completely? My temperatures are fine so I'm not sure why it keeps doing this weird cycling.

Are my lower thresholds possibly too high? My fans are:

FAN4, FANA: Noctua NF-P14s redux-1200
Max Speed: 1200 RPM (+-10%)
Min Speed: 400 RPM (+-20%)

FAN2, FAN3: ENERMAX T.B. Silence UCTB12P
Max Speed: 1500 (+/- 10%) RPM
Min Speed: 500 (+/- 10%) RPM

It's the lower thresholds, set them lower (like 100, 200, 300 for example) ;)

The fans run to slow so the MB believe they are stalled so it goes in stall recovery mode (full power to the fan) so the fan speed up, the MB clear the stall error, etc...

I'll try that, I was afraid to go too low.

No problem ;)

FYI there's a few cooling profiles (normal, full speed, quiet, ...), you can chose the one you want in the IPMI interface.

The only thing I could find was "Fan Mode Settings", is that what you meant?

i.e.

Current FAN Mode is Optimal.
Set Fan to Standard Speed
Set Fan to Full Speed
Set Fan to Optimal Speed
Set Fan to HeavyIO Speed

Strange: I found that the only way I could stop my fan speeds cycling was to set the lower limits no lower than 400rpm.

When I type into the console: kldload ipmi.ko

I get back: kldload: an error occurred while loading the module. Please check dmesg(8) for more details.

Could someone help me out with this error?

I've got a Supermicro X10SL7‑F with an Intel E3-1246V3 and 4x8 GB Crucial ECC Ram
10 x 4TB HGST Deskstar Nas HDDs, 2 x 250GB Sasmsung 850, 1 x 100GB Intel DC S3700 SSD

Can you access IPMI through the web interface? Does a different IPMI utility work?

Yes, I can access it through the web interface but there I only have four settings; Standard, Full IO, Full, Optimal. I'm not familiar with any other IPMI utilities. What would you suggest?
