This is probably a long shot, but is anyone successfully running OSX through a VirtualBox jail?

Hah, I haven't even been able to get OS X to run properly in VirtualBox on my Mac!

You can try to download some Hackintosh images and test them. I had osx running on a Linux in virtualbox a couple of years ago (just to see how far I could push it) so it is possible.

Edit: found a screenshot, this was April 2011...

Thanks for this. I'd pretty much given up hope after Robert's post about not getting OSX running in virtualbox on a Mac, which I tried and failed to do. I'd guessed if I it wouldn't run on Mac hardware in virtualbox there was little hope on FreeNAS.

Managed to fine a image file for yosemite-zone (google hackintosh zone) and managed to get this running in a virtualbox VM on my iMac. Had a couple of unsuccessful attempts in a FreeNAS jail, but at least it's a step in the right direction and worth investigating a little further...

I have it working, but man it was a process. I wish I could tell you exactly what I did to get it working, but I didn't write it down. :( I do know my first 10.10 attempt was glitchy. Since you can't do full upgrades (like 10.10 -> 10.11) using these hacked-up images, I started over with a 10.11 hacked image, which worked a lot better.

It's a combo of using a hacked image from gray areas of the interwebs, and then messing with image settings outside of the image itself (using VB commandline tools). I'd do a search for instructions anyone has posted since 10.11 since I would've used one of those.

Disclaimer: I don't do this at all related to my FreeNAS box. This is VB running on my Linux workstation.
