How are you trying to mount the NFS volume in your Ubuntu VM?
I have it configured with AutoFS.
Are you using AutoFS on FreeNAS (Server)? Ubuntu (Client)? Both?

AutoFS is running in the VM (Ubuntu). It basically just mounts the NFS shares on demand when the destination directory is accessed.

does iohyve gives a GUI to run Ubuntu?

Is it worth worrying anymore? Ten is getting close to complete.

You can even just forward the X session over ssh. Agreed though, all of this is academic given 10 and Docker.

Thank you - Ubuntu 64-bit worked nicely. Interestingly, the VirtualBox jail has the same problem under 9.10 (doesn't receive an address via DHCP), but hard-coding the address is a workaround. (Just want to note - I also run the Plex Media Server plugin and its jail does NOT have this problem - it still works just fine with 9.10.)

With all that, though, I felt as though I was dedicating an awful lot of my FreeNAS resources to CrashPlan. Since I had a spare Windows box lying around, I just installed CrashPlan on it and adopted the backups that had been done until now by the CP plugin. So now the filesystems were a little different, but it only took one overnight to figure out that everything was really the same (2.5T and about 325,000 files) - see this link for how this works. CP on Windows appears to be much faster and more reliable than what I had with the plugin. So I'm saying goodbye to CP on FreeNAS - it's been fun (sort of) but I won't miss it.

So how exactly did you setup CP on a desktop and backup all the data on the freeNAS box? I tried that and CP only backed up 250MB when there is many terabytes to back up. CP sees FREENAS on the network. But it's just not seeing ALL of it I guess. Not sure if this is a CP limitation or ...?

Make sure your system has the min specs to run crashplan. Then mount it and double check it has read permissions for everything. If that doesn't work figure out what the difference between the data that gets backed up and the data that doesn't.

So sounds it's nothing special really. Just a basic install on any compatible computer. After mounting, Crashplan should see it (which it does for me) then back it up if its selected.

I just unticked the media folder and now Crashplan is backing up more stuff 52GB worths or far. thats a hug improvement. Maybe a glitch. I'll probably untick everything and start from scratch.

Sorry I didn't reply until now. Shouldn't be any (reasonable) limitations on size of backup - in my case it's 2.4T and it works just fine. Let us know if starting from scratch solved the problem.

I never had Crashplan before so this is the initial backup. VERY LARGE! 5+TB. So unfortunately, since crash plan is installed on a desktop that is not on 24/7, it's going to take months to complete the initial backup.

I am currently working on getting VNC setup for UBUNTU via iohyve as a VM. I hope to install crash plan on ubuntu as a VM so it can backup 24/7. The FreeNAS box is already on 24/7 so it makes sense.

Yes, whatever you end up doing, you want 24/7 backup. In my case I had access to a PC that was always on and not doing much else anyway...

Trying to follow through this post... but it sounds like the majority of people (all?) are trying to use crashplan to back up TO your FreeNAS, correct? I had been backing up FROM my FreeNAS TO the crashplan servers for a few months and then it just randomly stopped working (plugin) last week. Haven't been able to get it squared away again yet.

Maybe, but that can with the jail/plugin. (as far as i know)
I want to backup my FreeNAS to crashplan and that is not possible with the jail/plugin in FreeNAS , i am now running Corral and that CrashPlan container works very well. So until the dockers are back i will be on Corral... and sorry... but if you once setup a docker it is so easy to setup any docker you want... i don't understand people did not understand how docker worked but well... other discussion

But to backup your FreeNAS (other then Corral) to CrashPlan
You need to install Linux in iohyve or use ESXi to run FreeNAS 9.10 beside Windows/Linux and install the normal desktop app from Crashplan (which is actually used in the docker)

No, lots of us are backing up our FreeNAS to something else (CP cloud or other computers).

If the plugin just stopped working for you, then you are dramatically luckier than the rest of us. Having been very flaky on 9.3, the plugin broke completely with 9.10.

Either follow ajschot's advice, or move to Corral, or put CP on a separate Windows or Linux box instead of on FreeNAS.
