With an old Sandisk Cruzer Balde USB key (and FreeNAS 9.2 64bit) no problem: system installs quickly and boot is also very fast (quite strange for an old and slow USB dongle, refused by recent Smart TVs like Samsungs).

With a brand new (but tested) Corsair Voyager 1100 I'm stuck at the message

«waiting up to 5 seconds for ixdiagnose to finish» :(

I tried another one Corsair (same model): same problem

Ok, are we talking about the first bootup since you installed FreeNAS? If so, it is slow. Gotta give it some time to do its thing. I think I've waited as much as 10 minutes for it to go past that point.

That "waiting for ixdiagnose to finish" does finish within 5 seconds. The problem is that the stuff that follows provides no output, so it appears to be stuck on ixdiagnose.

agreed, it then follows with mount: /dev/ufs/FreeNASs2a: Device Busy as the first output after the IX Diagnosis hang. I see it after each upgrade or new install but ONLY when using USB as the boot media.

I ran into the same issue on version 9.2.1.7, it got to that step and the 1st few times I assumed it was stuck I tried different recreating the USB key and even changed keys but low and behold you'll are 100% correct. Just wait give it about 7 to 10 mins and it will continue to the next step. Also, I can confirm it only happens the 1st time you boot it up. Thanks for the info folks.

I usually use FreeNAS updates as an excuse to make more coffee and pull up mailing list archives. I leave cmd open on windows workstation with "ping -t [ipaddress] " running

Once it stops timing out I go back to work. :)

I am having the same problem. I was installing on a new usb cause my original usb crapped out. I installed on a generic one i got from an expo but i was getting that "waiting up to 5 seconds for ixdiagnose to finish... done." but it doesnt continue. I found and read online that it could be the usb itself. So I installed it on a Kingston usb and I am still having the same issue. Its not going anywhere. I am trying to boot the 9.2.1.7 and the 9.2.1.8 that just released.

I redid the usb again. and tried to boot it again. this time it works. Not sure what the problem was. but its working.
