Hello

I recently had an issue with my file server, the power supply broke. When I replaced and rebooted FreeNAS the auto import failed on the last step (3/3) with the comment "You already have a volume with same name" but I cannot see any volumes. I've been looking around in the forum but have not found anything on this problem. I could really use some help so I do not break anything while investigating this failure. What are the first steps I should do to find out if it is a broken disk?

I'm running an old version of FreeNAS on the machine FreeNAS-9.2.1.8-RELEASE-x64.

Hi and thank you very much assisting me. I'm a bit surprised/worried because I got two different results when I ran the commands yesterday evening and now today.
The setup is encrypted and I have both key file and recovery key file stored in a safe location.

From yesterday:

I still get the same response (today and yesterday) when trying to do auto-import with the gui, everything works until the last step when I select the volume and it fails with "You already have a volume with same name".

Clearly there are a few things happening here:

verything works until the last step when I select the volume and it fails with "You already have a volume with same name".
The pool was already imported behind the GUI's back. zpool export main it in the CLI and try again. Either that or you have another pool called main already imported ( zpool status is your friend.

As for the different outcomes, either the disk took longer to open (baaaaaad sign) or it was unplugged (poor connection, reseat the cables) or it was failing but managed to recover just enough for FreeNAS/ZFS to start figuring things out.

In any case, you have a mirror, so not too much to worry about.

I've kept investigating the forum and my symptoms. I first thought it might be an issue with the amount of memory but I have 16GB so it should be enough.

If I do not first try to auto-import the volume i cannot see anything using the terminal

Code:
[root@freenas] ~# zpool list -v
no pools available
[root@freenas] ~# zpool import
[root@freenas] ~#

After trying to auto-import the volume using the gui I get the same error as before. Then I tried again using CLI and got the following

Code:
[root@freenas] ~# zpool list -v
no pools available
[root@freenas] ~# zpool import
   pool: main
	 id: 15052293194697815683

Show us the output of zfs list please.
The thing that looks like is happening is that the pool is being imported but it is not able to be mounted.

Changing the import command to deal with mnt point it seem to work but the jails are not working. Will continue working on that tomorrow.
But the volume is not visible in the GUI.

First tried without mounting it in the GUI. Did not work.

Code:
[root@freenas] ~# zpool status -v
no pools available
[root@freenas] ~# zpool import -f -R /mnt main
cannot import 'main': no such pool available
[root@freenas] ~# zpool status -v
no pools available

Second time, tried it after failing to mount using GUI.

Code:
[root@freenas] ~# zpool import -f -R /mnt main
[root@freenas] ~# zpool status -v
  pool: main
 state: ONLINE
status: The pool is formatted using a legacy on-disk format. The pool can

Restarting the CIFS manually allow me to access the drives from a windows machine so the data i still there but there seems to be something wrong. I cannot access any of the jails and the GUI cannot find the volumes nor do auto-mount when I restart the FreeNAS machine. Maybe the USB stick with the FreeNAS SW on it has become corrupt? I'll look for another USB stick and try to boot the computer with a new installation of FreeNAS on it.

Changing the import command to deal with mnt point it seem to work but the jails are not working.
You are not doing it properly AND you are not responding to any of the input you are being given.

I'm very sorry Chris, I was trying to understand the command and I tried to import it with a mountpoint as well.
This command was described in the following thread that I at first believed was similar to my issue:
https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/zpool-import-not-able-to-mount.42123/

I'm very grateful for your assistance and I believed that I have responded to inputs and help you and the others
have provided. When I respond to your input I also try to include the context of the commands that I tried so you
can see the sequences and not only the actual response.
I was very tired yesterday (it was way after midnight here and I had worked a very long day) and I may have misunderstood
things then. Sorry about that :(

I'm also guessing that we are in very different time zones and that may make my answers seems to take a long time but
I need to sleep or take care of my children at some time :)

Is this encrypted?
Yes, it is encrypted. Could that be the reason why I cannot see the volume at all until I try to auto import the volume using the GUI?

Show us the output of zfs list please.
The thing that looks like is happening is that the pool is being imported but it is not able to be mounted.

I tried to import the pool again to run "zfs list", I hope I did it correctly but I'm not sure if I need to be explicit so I
tried both "zpool import" and "zpool import main" the results was quite different. What should the mount command be to do it correctly?
Code:
[root@freenas] ~# zpool list -v
no pools available
[root@freenas] ~# zpool status
no pools available
[root@freenas] ~# zpool import
   pool: main
	 id: 15052293194697815683
  state: ONLINE
status: The pool is formatted using a legacy on-disk version.
action: The pool can be imported using its name or numeric identifier, though
some features will not be available without an explicit 'zpool upgrade'.
